Will this strategy help or hurt my page ranking?

Written by General Seo on Jan 25th, 2010 | Filed under: Duplicate Content

I have a blog. It is set to show only one post per page.

I plan to write an article, we’ll call it Article 1, and post this on my blog.

I then write Article 2, wich will contain a link to Article 1. I post Article 2 on my blog, then also submit Article 2 to several article directories (ezines, etc.).

Will I get dinged for the dreaded "Duplicate Content"?

  1. Duplicate content filters are highly over exaggerated.. They are there, but the threshold for triggering them is fairly high.. That said, I would never put original content that is on my site on any sort of article directory.. It dilutes the value of the content on your site since it makes it freely available to people without them actually visiting your site.. Which is the real goal, right??

What I would suggest is that you try a slightly more refined strategy..

Write your article 1. Make it one of the best resources for that information. Make it "long".. Then make a shorter version of it with less information, article 1a.. Distribute that (Article 1a) to the article directory sites and have it link back to article 1 as the better resource for that information..

  2. It may not happen if it was just one post, but if you did it repeatedly, then you probably would have duplicate content issues.
An alternative is to make some changes to the article so it still conveys the intended message, but the content is sufficiently different so it’s not duplicate content.
