First make sure you have meta tags on your webpages that reflect the content on your site. This site has great info on how to optimize your webpages http://www.searchbliss.com/seo-tools/search-engine-optimization.htm
Then submit your URL to Yahoo, Google, etc. Its better to go to each individual search engine and do it yourself than to use a quick submit website service. That way you can be sure that it goes through for each search engine (Some search engines do not allow automated programs to submit URLs). You can also improve your visibility on Google by making a sitemap https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login. Yahoo also uses sitemaps.
