How can I check for backlinks?

Written by General Seo on Apr 30th, 2010 | Filed under: Backlinks

I have always used "links: webaddress.com" on google to find the backlinks of a site but then I tried to check the backlinks of this site which sounds similar to another popular site. When I type in it keeps showing the results of the other page. The only difference is a letter in the domain name. So now it shows the backlinks of both the sites. Is there a tool or a site where you can check for backlinks of a site.? I tried to google it but then I got some sites that don’t display proper results.. a lil help please

  1. Google Webmaster Tools (https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools) is a great place to view backlinks to your site, but doesn’t allow you to evaluate backlinks to your competitors. Yahoo’s Site Explorer (https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/mysites) is a great place to help evaluate banklinks for both your site as well as your competitors sites.

  2. Google’s link:// command only shows links to your homepage, and doesn’t show all

The absolute BEST tool for checking backlinks is Google’s Webmaster Tool

because it gives you backlinks for each page of your site. Not to mention a lot of other data and information useful to rank well in Google (e.g. how often Google crawls your site, if Google finds problems with your title and description tags, etc)

  3. I think BackLinkWatch.com is the best free service. It shows important info like PageRank of the pages with your link, whether it is a "rel=nofollow" link and the number of other links on those particular pages
