    Submitting your website to online directories shouldn’t hurt you at all. A link farm is a site that sells links for money in exchange for page rank. Directories are just trying to establish what sites are actually out there. You can submit to Google, ask.com, msn.com, dmoz, askjeeves, etc. for free. Yahoo does charge a fee to submit to their directory. Just know that good seo takes 5-6 months to kick in. DMOZ takes FOREVER.

    It doesn’t hurt but if you submit your site to a directory that has 10,000-100,000 listing that you share page rank with already it won’t help you.

    You’ll want to use some other services to get your page rank and exposure up.     Actually, it will hurt you when considering Google’s stance on link farms. Don’t waste your time with these services as they aren’t consider much more than spam. Instead, focus your efforts on legitimate link building opportunities with trusted sites.
